Get Woodworking Week 2015

This week, Feb 15-21, 2015 is Get Woodworking Week and it is a movement that has gained some momentum in just a few years. It is a week in February where the woodworking bloggers and content producers provide an extra push of encouragement to get people out to their shops and start woodworking.

I rarely get time to participate in the movements of the woodworking community at large, as everything seems to hit right at the worst moments with my business schedule. But this year, for Get Woodworking Week I was able to crank out a video to share some thoughts on getting into the shop and starting your woodworking journey.

I am not really clear on how it started, but I think Get Woodworking Week was the brainchild of the guys over at the Modern Woodworkers Association, Tom Iovino from Tom's Workbench seems to be at the epicenter of it all. But no matter, it is a great idea. Be sure to check in with the MWA and Tom's Workbench to keep your thumb on the pulse of everyone that is supporting the Get Woodworking Week movement.

I hope you find what I share insightful and motivating.

Dust Collection Update

It was one year ago that I converted my single stage dust collector into a two stage system. In this video I share the final tweaks and changes to my dust collection system.

Find out some of the things I did that worked, and did not work, as I modified my dust collector.

I hope that by sharing my experience, others will find it helpful as they make decisions for their own dust collection system.

I am not affiliated with or compensated in any way by Oneida, I simply like the product and am providing this link for your convenience to see the Super Dust Deputy that I purchased. Click here to see the Super Dust Deputy that I purchased at Oneida's site. At the time of this posting, it appears that the unit I purchased actually is $20 cheaper than what I paid originally.

How I Sell My Woodworking Projects

In this video I answer one of the most common questions that I get from woodworkers: How do I sell my woodworking projects?

Since I can offer only one point of view and experience, I also interviewed 3 other woodworkers and will release what they share in the next videos that follow.

Even though we are all woodworkers, we all build different things and have different experiences in selling our items. This will provide a lot more information and inspiration to anybody looking to sell their woodworking projects.

For those interested in reading woodworking business magazines I recommend WoodShop News and Cabinet Maker FDM.  These magazines directly address the business of woodworking and manufacturing.

If you are interested in becoming part of a professional community of online woodworkers, I recommend WoodWeb. Warning: WoodWeb is very strict about members being professional woodworkers and wood shops, hobbyists are ejected and blocked. There are plenty of online communities dedicated to hobby woodworkers so WoodWeb has worked hard to keep itself the best destination for pro's to gather and support each other.

Stay tuned for the next 3 videos in this series where each woodworker shares information about their business which will inspire and inform others looking to sell their woodworking projects.

Other Videos in this series:

Ep. 35 Brad Bernhart Interview

Ep. 36 Scott Enloe Interview

Ep 37 Nick Pancheau Interview

I hope you enjoy the video and find it helpful.
